Best 10 Days of August Month in Every Year

 Sri Dalada Perahara called as Kandy Esala Perahara



The Kandy Esala Perahera is held every year in August. Many local and foreign tourists come to Kandy city to watch this perahera.

This perahera is held for ten days and the first five days are called Kubal Perahera, the second five days are also called Randoli Perahera. On the eleventh day, the Dawal Perahera will conclude the perahera festivities.


The perahera consists of five parts,
  • Sri Dalada Maliga Perahara
  • Natha Dewala Perahara
  • Wishnu Dewala Perahara 
  • Katharagama Dewala Perahara
  • Paththini Dewala Perahara
During the five days of the Kumbhal Perahera, all the artists and elephants wear white clothes, and during the last five days called Randoli Perahera, they wear gold and yellow clothes.

All the dancers participating in this perahera have been associated as hereditary dancers in the past, and currently several groups of non-hereditary artists also participate in the Sri Dalada Maliga Perahera. Other artists are traditional artists and children from Kandy boys' schools.

One of the unique things about the Sri Dalada Maliga Perahera is that all the dancers participating in this Perahera are Male Dancers. Furthermore, Female Dancers participate only in the Perahera of the Patthini Devalaya.

Non-traditional artists are selected for the groups through an interview. I am also an artist who was interviewed in that way. 



I will also be joining the Perahera as a Dancer in the Kothala Padaya/Bulath Padaya Dance Group, which is known as the first dance group  in the Sri Dalada Maligawa Perahera

I will also be joining the Patharu Dance Group, a Folk Dance Group of the Sri Dalada Maligawa Perahera
I first participated in the Perahera in 2022. I have been dancing continuously for 4 years now.


Another unique thing about this Perahera is that the Presidential Award winners are selected from among the artists performing during the Perahera. These artists are selected by a panel of judges. The panel of judges will stand randomly on both sides of the Perahera route and select the dancers.

I am also a President Award Winner of the Sri Dalada Maliga Perahera in 2023 and 20324.


My wish is that I will be able to dance for this Perahera as long as I can dance.
